Reducing Gender Based Violence and encroachment among women and youth regarding their Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights

Since 2008, in partnership with NRO, the PFPPA has been implementing a project under the title of “Reducing Gender Based Violence (GBV) and encroachment of youth and women rights regarding their SRH within the Jerusalem Governorate”. The project was implemented over two previous phases, targeting youth (15 – 25 years old) from both sexes, women and men in the areas of: Abu Dis, Al- Eizarieh, Al-Sawahireh Al-Sharqieh towns, Arab El-Jahaleen Al Turr, Shu’fat and the Old city of Jerusalem. In its third phase, the project built on the previous phases; most notably, it expanded its coverage to also reach West Jerusalem (WB Areas); Beit Anan, Iqbaiba, Beit Iksa and Beit Dukko, it elevated its strategy in working with CBOs towards a more coordinated efforts in SRH&R and gender equality in the targeted areas. Moreover, the project coordinated with the Ministry of Education in offering SRH&R and GBV awareness and counseling to students in West Jersualem in addition to PFPPA’s roles in building capacities of counselors and teachers in schools in dealing with SRH and GBV issues with the students.


The Project aimed to realize 7 objectives:

  • To strengthen the participatory approach with local partners (youth, women, religious leaders and educational institutions), and utilize their human and material resources concerning Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRH&R) and gender equality in the targeted areas.
  • To coordinate with educational, health, social and legal institutions in the project areas to have coordinated efforts on health care, counseling, referral and follow up toward violated people.
  • To enhance capacity building of youth to be advocates and community mobilizers for SRHR and gender equity
  • To contribute in sustainable and consistent SRHR and GBV information, awareness and counseling to school students in the targeted areas
  • To contribute and to continue to increase the access to SRH and family planning services and information in the targeted areas
  • To improve the situation of victims of GBV in targeted areas
  • To promote awareness and utilization of IEC materials related to SRHR and gender to the general public, particularly in the targeted areas.

To contribute in reducing social & family problems, sexual infections and encroachment females right among youth from both sexes in the project areas.

Specific objectives:

  • Strengthen 20 CBO capacities to adapt a GBV protection mechanism in the targeted project areas by the end of the project
  • Enhance capacity of 80 local counselors, service provider, religious leaders, and 80 youth to deliver CSE related messages in the targeted areas by the end of the project.
  • Increase access to SRH and GBV services and information for 23,400 women, men and youth in the targeted areas by the end of the project.


Activities of the project during the 4th phase:

  • Develop an advocacy strategy and action plan for three years (2015 – 2017) for the PFPPA project staff and CBOs partners
  • Establish and maintain a technical committee to guide the project activities.
  • Launch a meeting with potential CBOs partners.
  • Sign sub-contracts with potential CBOs
  • Conduct training on advocacy mechanisms and the utilization of the social media
  • Conduct 9 campaigns on international occasions
  • Develop and broadcast communication materials
  • Conduct a national conference for 100 participants
  • Conduct 34 individual meetings with decision makers, policy makers and legislative council member.
  • Document the project achievements and disseminate the results
  • Conduct 30 youth initiatives
  • Conduct a need assessment on CSE
  • Develop and print 500 copies of the CSE training manual
  • Conduct a training course for 20 counselors of the MoE on CSE
  • Conduct a training course for 20 Religious leaders of the Ministry of Religions on CSE
  • Conduct a training course for 20 participants of the local CBOs service providers on CSE
  • Conduct two training camps for 80 youth from both sexes on CSE
  • Conduct a TOT training course for 20 counselors of the MoE on CSE
  • Conduct a refreshment training course for 20 counselors of the MoE on CSE
  • Conduct biannual workshops for 20 religious leaders
